What is there to do in the local area?
The site is at The Engine Yard; a three acre landscaped site, carefully repurposed to celebrate local food, drink and artisan shopping with an opportunity to relax and unwind in stunning surroundings. Here you can sip cocktails at the Balloon Bar, enjoy tasty woodfired pizzas at the Fuel Tank or savour a scrummy hot chocolate from Vale View Cafe after a local countryside walk… what more could you ask for?
Well there is also a Garden Shop, a Chocolatier, a Delicatessen, a Hair Salon & Day Spa, a Kids Toy Store, a Jewellery Shop, Clothing, Accessories & Interiors Boutiques, Butchery and Provisions Outlet and Cafes. Not to mention an abundance of outdoor seating, children’s play area and a programme of pop up events over the summer months.
We are just a 3 minute walk to Belvoir Castle and Gardens – as seen on The Crown. Explore Belvoir Castle’s Capability Brown landscape and beautifully established formal gardens on a variety of walks and trails.
The estate is surrounded by Public footpaths and trails as well as great cycling routes. You can head out for a hike, a ramble or a ride and enjoy the scenic views (and local country pubs) on your adventure.
There are private fishing lakes at Belvoir Castle and at Knipton, a neighbouring village. Group trips can be arranged.
On request, we can also arrange Clay Pigeon Shooting activities on the private ground of Belvoir Estate and Behind the Scene tours at Belvoir Castle.
We have an array of great country pubs serving great British grub and quality ales and wines (see the local pub FAQ for recommendations).
A 20 minute drive… you will find Twin Lakes Park – an all action, all weather theme park.
Ponton Park Wood, Melton Mowbray, Stamford and the city of Lincoln are all within reach of visiting.
What time can we check-in?
Your accommodation will be ready from 15:00. We are there to welcome guest between 15:00 and 19:00. Please advise us if you will be arriving late so there is someone to greet you. Please note that guests checking in later than 19:00 will incur a small charge of £20 per booked tent.
By what time do we need to check-out?
We ask guests to vacate their accommodation by 10:00. You are welcome to park your car on-site, enjoy the local area and head home later in the day. However, you must vacate the guest carpark by 14:00 to allow other guests to access the site.
What do I need to bring?
All bedding, linens and towels are included in the price. Please refer to the cooking facilities question below for catering inclusions. We recommend you bring a torch, a power pack to charge your phone and then anything else you may want for your holiday.
A fire wood pack for your fire bowl / log burner (bell tents and Shepherd’s Hut) is included in the price. Additional logs can be purchased on-site from The Idle Mole garden shop. If you wish to BBQ on the fire bowl please bring your own coals.
What cooking facilities are there for the bell tents?
Each bell tent comes with a single camping stove with 3 small gas bottles and kettle – perfect for making hot drinks. A luxury 2 person picnic hamper (perfect for the adults) with plates, cutlery, mugs, wine glasses, thermos flask, wine cooler, insulation pouch and blanket.
You are also provided with a fire bowl, BBQ utensils and the below for if you want to BBQ (get a BBQ pack from Butchers at The Engine Yard);

There is also a cool box and ice packs (you can collect your ice packs when you check-in) to keep anything you bring cool. We provide a few basic essentials; salt, pepper, tea bags, coffee, sugar, tea towel, sponge/cloth, dustpan & brush, washing up bowl (there are sinks for washing up but this will help to carry dishes) and washing up liquid. The shower block has 2 sinks dedicated for washing up with hot and cold running water.
Don’t forget The Engine Yard outlets – not cooking facilities – but you can get a yummy meal at The Fuel Tank or even a take away woodfired pizza to eat at your tent.
Is there wifi?
We don’t provide any specific wifi – we hope your glamping holiday is an opportunity to relax and switch off. Access to wifi will be down to your own individual provider.
Who is the site suited for?
A perfect place for everyone and anyone looking for a comfortable escape to the countryside. A solo trip to unwind, a romantic weekend for two or an activity packed family trip – there is something for you all.
The site is dog friendly but please bring their bedding and bowls. We kindly ask that owners are vigilant in picking up after their dogs and that they are kept on a lead. There is an extra charge of £25 per stay.
We do accept large groups, including hen and stag parties – but please kindly note we reserve the right to ask any guest who is not respecting our site and other guests to leave.
Minimum age to book a tent is 25 years and older.
We don’t recommend children under 1 staying in the tents (due to cold nights) but this is down to individual family choices. Children may be more comfortable in warmer summer months.
How do we get to the site?

Just a 10-minute drive from the A52, 15 minutes from both Grantham and Melton Mowbray, 40 minutes from Nottingham and very close to the A1.
Our nearest train station is Grantham with regular trains from London, the South and North East lines. From Grantham station you would then need to take a 15 minute taxi ride – ask them to take you to The Engine Yard: NG32 1PE
To access our private glamping car park, drive past Belvoir Castle with it on your right, look out for the glamping signs soon after on the left. The site entrance is on the left, just after The Engine Yard.
Can we load / unload the car at our accommodation?
Guests can park in the designated carpark – which is next to the glamping field. There are trollies to help transport luggage between cars and accommodation.
Everyone has one complimentary parking space next to the glamping area. Additional cars are charged £15 per stay and there is parking a short 3 minute walk away.
How many people does each accommodation type sleep?
Each bell tent can sleep 2 – 5 people. A double bed with mattress is provided for 2 people. Additional camping mattresses are provided for extra guests – ideal for families.
The Shepherd’s Hut and Gypsy Wagon can each accommodate 2 people.
How many units are there on-site?
We have 10 bell tents, 1 Shepherd’s Hut and 1 Gypsy Wagon.
Do you have electricity on-site?
There is no electricity to the tents – if you want to charge items at your tent please bring your own power pack.
We light the site through solar fairy lights, festoon lighting and lamps but we recommend you bring a torch.
The Shepherd’s Hut and Gypsy Wagon have electricity.
What bathroom facilities are available on-site?
We have a brand new state of the art shower block with 7 wet rooms. Each wet room contains a shower, sink, flushing WC, mirror and changing space. 1 of the wet rooms has disabled access.
Can guests light their own campfire and BBQ?
Each bell tent is provided with a fire bowl that can be lit and enjoyed to stay snug, toast marshmallows or BBQ. No other fires are permitted on-site.
Fire guidelines on-site:
- Fire bowls may only be lit and operated by an adult
- Children and animals must be kept at a safe distance and are to be supervised by adults at all times – especially if kids are toasting marshmallows
- Please only burn wood or charcoal on the fires
- Ensure all fire bowls are fully extinguished when you are done using them – especially when going to bed
- Never use a fire bowl, camping stove, candle or any naked flames in or near the tents
- Smoking is prohibited inside the tents
- Make sure everyone knows how to put out clothing that’s on fire – stop, drop and roll
Are dogs allowed on-site?
Yes, your furry friends are welcome to join you. We kindly ask that owners are vigilant in picking up after their dogs and that they are kept on a lead. There is an extra charge of £25 per stay.
Can we have guests visit us?
In the interest of protecting the integrity for other site users, we kindly ask that a maximum of 2 people per tent are welcomed to join you during the day. Guests must vacate the site by 20:30 and are not permitted to stay overnight.
Do you accept hen and stag do’s?
Yes, but please kindly note the noise restrictions on-site and we reserve the right to ask any guest who is not respecting our site and other guests to leave. Please refer to our Booking Terms and Conditions before booking.

What are the noise restrictions on-site?
A guitar by the campfire is welcomed but amplified music is not permitted. We ask guests to kept noise to a minimum before 08:00 and after 22:00. Please note failure to comply with this could result in your eviction from the site.
Can you hire a cot?
We don’t have cots to hire and as the tents don’t have log burners we don’t recommend children under 1 staying in the tents (cold nights) but this is down to individual family choices. Children may be more comfortable in warmer summer months.
